I searched for this one, but didn't find a good link. My question is: How long is an air-cooled 1600 VW engine expected to last? My mechanic says 25 - 30K miles, but that seems low. Please consider answering poll above. In one VW book, I read it's as low as 17K for people who shift too early (and lug the engine) or too shift too late.
